Marky Mark on Marriage

23 10 2008

Now that we’ve been at this blog for a minute, I’ve come to realize just how much attention celebrity relationships get. I don’t think all the attention is unwarranted. Celebrity relationships are usually interesting, especially so, because a great many of them end in total disaster. This helps to explain their special place in the public eye. Right up there along side train wrecks.

Mark Wahlberg may prove however to be the exception to the rule. (we’re open to taking bets on this). He has announced his engagement and wedding next summer to his long time girl-friend and mother of his children Rhea Durham.

What we found unique about this announcement was that Wahlberg included reasons as to why he was ready for marriage and how he thinks marriage will improve their relationship.

“I wasn’t prepared to be married – I don’t care who it was – at [age] 20 or 30,” said Wahlberg. But now, he says, he’s ready for “committing to really making it work constantly and all the other things that go into building a solid foundation.”

People Magazine gives the full story with all the details on how Wahlberg plans to change his life as he prepares for marriage and the new responsibility.

There’s no guarantee how the marriage will turn out, but we want to give credit where credit is due. Mark Wahlberg, great job on waiting to get married until you had shown to yourself, and those that mattered most, that you had earned the responsibility and you were ready to commit to it!

Palin’s Daughter: Knocked Up like Juno

2 09 2008
If you enjoyed the pleasant awkwardness of Juno, pay attention to the drama unfolding in the current presidential race. The ailing McCain camp is struggling to explain the pregnancy of Bristol Palin, the unwed 17-yr old daughter of current Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

News of the pregnancy caught us by surprise, but the issue that bothered us most was Sarah Bristol’s decision to rush the teenagers into marriage. Bristol might be walking the walk when it comes to abstinence advocacy, but she is mistakenly rushing her daughter into an unplanned marriage. No 17-year old teen comprehends the implications of a life-long commitment to their current boyfriend, and the added pressure of a pregnancy only worsen her judgment.

It is a poor attempt to by Sarah Palin to save her career and the image of the Palin family. Is the sacrifice worth the potential lifetime anguish of her daughter? This teen marriage not only fails to address the underlying problem at hand (poor decision making, lack of sex ed, etc), it sets up a difficult scenario for the soon to be child and the father.

John Farrel put it best:

“There are no scarier words for a 17-year-old boy than “I’m late.” Except perhaps, “I’m late, and my mother is governor of Alaska and commander of the National Guard and running for vice president and thinks we should get married.”

Sarah Palin understood the risk she was taking and the exposure her daughter would suffer before she accepted the nomination for the Vice President position. Her self-serving motives superseded her daughter’s privacy and well-being.

With no easy solution in sight, many are wondering if Sarah Bristol will pull the trigger on her Vice Presidential hopes. She is already considered a weak candidate for the job, not to mention inexperienced.
To get the rundown on this ongoing saga, we’ve put together a few links to help you sift through the rumors, facts, myths, and allegations.

Bill Murray Bails Out of Plane and Marriage

25 08 2008

The LA Times Blog coverd the story of Bill Murray’s sky diving adventure and recent divorce. How does your love life go so wrong that news stories allude to the crushing death that results after falling from a plane as a comparison to your marriage?

Many would gladly risk death by jumping out of an airplane, force an adrenaline rush so intense it would help them escape the reality awaiting them on the ground below.  For Bill Murray, his divorce to Jennifer Butler Murray cost him a pretty penny, including a cool $7 million just on the prenup alone.  Yikes. I think Bill will need an ongoing set of adrenaline highs to fully recover.  Maybe next week we’ll hear about his bear wrestling feats….
