Top Celebrity Divorces of 2008

16 04 2009

I have decided to compiled a list of the top 5 celebrity divorces of 2008.  Those crazy celebs always seem to provide us with enough drama to last a lifetime, especially when it comes to their relationships.  Staying together is hard enough in any situation let alone in Hollywood where you are criticized, judged, watched, and tempted by anything and anyone around you.

The star studded life of these tinsel towners may seem glamorous, but their disastrous relationships seem to prove otherwise.  The list I have compiled contains both newly married couples as well as those who have been together for centuries.  No matter what the reason for the split…they all ended in divorce.  Maybe we can learn something from these A-Lister’s and chose wisely next time we think about the “M” word.

Here they are…

1.) Eddie Murphy & Tracy Edmund:

This lovely marriage only lasted for a measly two weeks.  Pretty pathetic, if you ask me!  They must have had a really bad honeymoon (aka bad sex).

2.) Madonna & Guy Richie:

Rumors circulated around this high-powered couple for over a year, expressing a possible breakup.  Madge was even accused of having an affair with Baseballer stud, Alex Rodriguez.  Weather the rumors were true or not, the couple did decide to end their marriage after being together for 7.5 years.

3.) Morgan Freedman & Myrna Colley-Lee:

It definitely seemed like this couple was going to make it all the way…but, they feel short.  Things between the two seemed to get pretty rocky following a serious car crash that Freedman was involved in.  After dating for 8 years and being married for another 24, the couple decided to call it quits.

4.) Robin William & Marsha Garces:

This couple met in an interesting fashion.  Garces, who started out as the nanny for William’s son, became his wife for 20 years.  They had two children together and decided to go their own separate ways after filing for irreconcilable differences.  Maybe William’s has a new nanny that he has fallen for?

5.) Pink & Carey Hart:

This punk rocker and her hubby of two years decided to call it quits after coming to terms that they were just “better off as friends.”  Sometimes the chemistry just dies, and without that passion for each other, a relationship can get really shallow and boring!

I hope you all enjoy this list and please let me know if there are any other celeb couples that I missed.  Also, does anyone have any ideas on who the top divorced Hollywood couples of 2009 will be?  Let’s start taking bets!

The Craziest Reasons to get Divorced

15 04 2009

OK…

Before any of you decide to lock it up and commit your life to that “special someone,” you may want to consider some of the most bizarre and unusual reasons that can prompt a divorce.  Marriage is already complicated enough between balancing finances, kids, decisions, morals, values, jobs, sex, and everything else that this life throws at us, but, I’m pretty sure that you never thought you had to consider these “problems and issues” before considering marriage.

And I thought that divorce usually followed  infidelity and irreconcilable differences…

Check out the following “legitimate” reasons for filing divorces  from all around the world…

1.  In Canada, if a man snored too loud and his wife was able to prove it, she could successfully file for a divorce.

That’s a sure reason for Canadian men to invest in those anti-snoring devices!

2.  In Italy, household chores, such as dish-washing, can be serious enough to bring up the discussion of divorce.

Why doesn’t the couple just hire a maid if it is that big of an issue?

3.  In Japan, sleeping in an “unacceptable ” position is grounds for a divorce.

Wow, the poor Japanese can’t even relax when they are sleeping!

4.  According to the Manu Law, an Indian male had the right to “switch out or swap” his wife if she did not bear him any children after the 8Th year of marriage.  These men could also “dump” their wives for someone else if she only gave birth to female children after 11 years of marriage.

Congrats! You just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl….and your husband is leaving you!  What a memorable experience.

5.)  In England a simple act of “vandalism, ” whether it is intentional or not, can be a completely legitimate reason to ask for a divorce.

Watch out ladies!…make sure you don’t wash your hubby’s favorite white tee with colored clothes and accidentally dye it pink… or else… you might just find yourself divorced.

All I can say is WOW!  No wonder the divorce rate is so freaking high…you can practically divorce someone for any possible reason!  What’s next… approving a divorce if your hair starts turning gray?  You never know….better start stocking up on that hair dye just in case 😉

Leanne Rimes Booty Call

23 03 2009

If you’re not getting any at home, then you must be getting it somewhere!  Which brings me to the subject of the latest in celebrity gossip… Leanne Rimes and her supposed scandal with costar Eddie Cibrian.  The “happily” married country sweetheart allegedly has been getting some booty behind her husband’s back.  Naughty, naughty.  To confirm the allegations, a video surveillance camera caught the scandalous pair exchanging much more than just words at a Los Angeles eatery.

So, what is Leanne’s poor husband, Dean Sheremet, doing while his unfaithful woman is sucking face with her costar hottie?  Getting blasted on a morning news station in Michigan for apparently being gay.  I bet you didn’t see that one coming, and neither did I, but you heard right!  While Dean Sheremet’s wife is busy getting some booty, he is busy getting his sexuality questioned by his friends and family.  Ouch!

Ok, so cheating sucks, especially when you are married, but, which is worse, a cheating wife or a gay husband?  My conclusion is this:  Leanne Rimes cheated on her husband because he is gay.  Obviously he is not giving her what she needs to be sexually satisfied.  How can you blame her for pursuing a man that actually enjoys a woman’s company? Bottom line: everyone needs some loving.

Moral of the story:  Marriage can wait! You would think that if you dated long enough, you would figure out if your husband was gay.    Duh!

Economic Recession= Less Divorce

12 12 2008

In an article titled, “These days, couples can’t afford to divorce”, the Daily Breeze discusses how divorce rates are down due to the slumping economy. As the economic situation in the United States worsens, couples are starting to realize that they would not be able to survive financially if they were to divorce from their spouse.

The cost of maintaining one household with two parents is enough, but the idea of having to pay for two households with only one parent in each house is unbearable. Due to the high cost of divorce, ranging anywhere from $20,000 to $200,000, couples are being forced to tough it out in their marriage.

My suggestion:

Skip marriage altogether with our current economic situation.

The cost of getting a divorce: $20,000.

The cost of getting married? (then getting divorced) Forget about it!

Remember: don’t promise marriage just to get a date.  Try OBC for casual dating.

Two Men One Cup, err Wife.

24 11 2008

Sharing is caring.. but in this case, two brothers in rural India take sharing to another level when they are forced to share one wife. Due to their meager economic status, these brothers can only afford to have one wife.

The nuances of this twist on a polygamist marriage involve a rotating sleeping schedule, obligatory chore duties,  and children whose father is purposely obfuscated.

Simpsons on Marriage

12 11 2008

I don’t think I need to go into the long running history of the Simpsons. I grew up with the show and still love it. It has for many years made Sundays with my own family much more enjoyable, even to the point of being able to tolerate them.

With that said, Homer and Marge haven’t always had the easiest marriage. After all, Homer is pretty much a big goof-ball. This last episode covered some of the more rocky parts of their marriage and was yet another awesome Simpsons episode. Anyone can guess how all the issues worked out, but it’s still an important reminder of the real issues we all (cartoons and humans) face in marriage.

Worth the watch if you’ve got nothing better to do. Check it out here on Hulu.

Cheating Women Are On the Rise

12 11 2008

Men are traditionally the most likely to cheat in a relationship, but a recent study has discovered that the number of women who are willing to admit to an affair has recently been increasing. Marriages occurring in the last five to ten years have shown a rising number of extramarital affairs initiated by women.

One surprising explanation is the rise of connectivity due to technology. As the New York Times observes:

“married women are more likely to spend late hours at the office and travel on business. And even for women who stay home, cellphones, e-mail and instant messaging appear to be allowing them to form more intimate relationships, marriage therapists say. Dr. Frank Pittman, an Atlanta psychiatrist who specializes in family crisis and couples therapy, says he has noticed more women talking about affairs centered on “electronic” contact.”

The advent of social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, and even micro-blogging sites like Twitter, not to mention basic tools like email and instant messaging, have all facilitated the ability of people, and in this case women, to develop and maintain romantic liaisons outside of their marriage.

Another important factor to consider is that married women are no longer staying at home, isolated from contact with other men.  Women are out there staying late at the office, having lunch with coworkers, just like men regularly do.  In a way it’s indicative of the  closing gap between men and women in the work place and at home.

It will be surprising to see how this trend continues to develop….
